You do not get much for your money from the likes of HP, Dell, Compaq or Gateway. Having one custom built for you by someone who knows what they are doing is much better. You certainly get more for your money— — — — — —What do you think is easier, spending less money or earning more (in ethical ways only)?Which one do you have more control over? That will be the easiest to affect.For example, if you have been bone lazy living on a tropical island living off the fruit from the surrounding trees, then spending less would be really tough and earning more the easier to accomplish.For the rest of us, we probably have more control over our spending. However refined carbohydrates will gain your body weight through increasing fat and no muscles. Proteins , which are expensive than carbs, will gain your weight through muscles and fat. Dietary fat can gain you weight through fat deposit only in the presence of insulin and cortisol or other hormone ; insulin spike can be caused by refined carbohydrates. So it is back to first point - refined carbohydrates. His life had gone fairly poorly relative to mine, he stopped working on his education after leaving high school and I did not . The only skilled jobs he found himself fit for were security guard jobs. I respect that profession a great deal, I think they are underrated as are building maintenance men.In the process of comparing notes he said; "You are doing so well, I wish I could make as much money as that. You should be going after the big money. "It kind of broke my heart to hear that. We were both children of privilege. He had been my classmate at a prestigious private school and his dad had been headmaster. I would met his dad and while we disagreed I assumed him to be an accomplished and capable man to have attained his position.I politely informed him how he could go make more money than he could spend by learning a simple but tough trade. In my search for a career I had found numerous paths to an obscene amount of money. The fact that such things do not motivate me made me move on.It's strange to meet people who still think money will make them happy. The research is pretty clear that over $80k a year the life satisfaction gained from more money is minimal.How much is enough? On average, about $75,000 per yearPsychologists say they've found the exact amount of money you need to be happyThat last one is significant because they actually found that getting over this threshold appears to make people less happy.I made enough money at age 25, and any more than that is merely to improve my security and reduce my dependence on family for support. Now at 31 I am chasing a satisfying career, not a financially advantageous one.That is not to say I met the threshold above, that is my current salary target or a little over. I have no interest in becoming a multi millionaire apart from in the course of ordinary prudent retirement investing. I do not know that my friend is less intelligent, but he does lack wisdom. It's wise to understand how much is enough and how to get it. He lacked the self insight to realize how miserable he will be chasing money alone. He's still miserable, this conversation happened about three or four years ago. He posts on social media about how frustrated and trapped he feels. I wish I could help, but he needs to reach the point of realizing that his path wo not lead to satisfaction on his own.
